There are many things in the universe that the young and aggressive race that called themselves homo sapiens are not aware of. Safe in their knowledge that their greatest foes are one another, they wage terrible war with machines called Battlemechs. The lords of the battlefield, each mech has more than enough firepower to level a city.
With various political and social groupings, humanity has never been more fragmented in its history. There are the Great Houses of the Inner Sphere, the deadly Clans of Kerensky, the struggling nations of the Periphery, as well as the ever-present people who thrive off warfare, mercenaries and pirates.
