Overview:

After the defeat of the Word of Blake, the reformed Star League required a new medium workhorse design for their growing mech forces.
The various requirements for the new design were highly stringent, and competition was fierce, with proposals pouring in from all over the Inner Sphere.
Coventry Metal Works came up with an upscaled version of their Stiletto mech, and turned it into an omnimech design, naming it the Freke.
Freke was the name of one of Odinīs two wolves and also known as "spearcutting". The new mech promises to live up to its name, by spearing through enemy formations with its various configurations.

Capabilities:

One of the Star League's primary considerations was a medium mech that could keep up with most light mechs and be faster than contemporary medium designs. The greatest constraint was the price, that it be less than 8 million C-bills.
This limited the weight tonnages possible. With the speed factored in, the designers found themselves limited to the 40-50 ton classes, with maximum speed from 90 to 110 kph.
After extensive tests, the Coventry team found that while their upscaled Stiletto could fit the requirements quite well, it actually fared very poorly in many engagements, proof of the old adage that being a jack of all trades often means that one is a master of none.
Casting for a solution to the problem, they decided to try making it an omnimech. The end result came in just under the 8 million C-Bill price tag, and various campaign simulations proved that the benefits of an omnimech chassis.
The primary configuration of the Freke is based on the original design submission, with an ER PPC for long range punch, and a short range missile rack for close up firepower. One advantage of the SRM rack is that it could be outfitted with inferno rounds to quickly destroy vehicles and enemey infantry. Two ER small lasers provide point blank defense, and it has limited jump capability.
The alpha configuration is geared for fire support. Two LRM launchers can provide a hail of missile fire unmatched by few other medium mech designs.
The beta variant has full jump capability, with only an ER PPC and two lasers for offensive punch. The mobility of the beta variant makes it a deadly skirmisher.
The gamma configuration uses a rotary autocannon for a devastating medium range barrage of autocannon shells. The speed of the Freke means that it has the means to close in sufficiently to use the weapon, and also to evade danger if the weapon jams.
The last variant is a city fighter, with pulse lasers, machine guns, and SRMs.

Deployment

The Freke has only just been submitted to the SLDF Quartermaster Department. However, the impressed LCAF High Command has already placed several orders for the new omnimech with CMW.
