Overview:

An extremely strange design which appeared in the touman of Clan Hell's Horses in 3068 was the Boson.
Slow but powerful, it is a complete deviation from the clan norm of fast medium mechs. Seemingly modeled on the Vindicator and Valkyrie, both post Exodus designs, the Boson combines the strengths of both mechs into a single package, capable of substantial long range firepower.

Capabilities:

The Boson's usefulness comes from its large pulse laser and ATM racks, which can shell out reliable firepower at extended distances. When engaged in close combat, the HE ammunition of the ATM racks come into play, capable of savaging even the heaviest assault mech.
3 lasers provide a backup for the ATM racks, in a single mount under the left hand of the Boson. However, there have been reports that severe jarring of the arm in combat may shake the laser lens out of alignment, and a greater-than-normal amounts of maintainence was required on the arm to keep it and the lasers fully functional.
For this reason, Boson pilots are advised to refrain from using the left arm in physical combat, not a difficult thing to do when fighting clan foes, but a possible problem in the future as the Horses increase their presence in the Inner Sphere.
Some jump jets enable the Boson to reposition itself quickly in the midst of combat, but tactical doctrine actually advises Bosons from aggressive move and shoot maneuvers. The jump jets are only there for the mech to shift its area denial effect from place to place, or for city fighting.
As a primarily defensive design, the Boson does its job extremely well at a low cost.

Deployment

Most Bosons have been assigned to the Horses' Stonewall Galaxy. A few have been sent to the other galaxies, but none to the front line units.
Other clans like the Star Adders and the Coyotes have also become interested in the Boson, but the Horses are unwilling to part with their new design.
