A truly strange design that proves the Inner Sphere is embracing true unilateral peace toward one another, the Ranger is an experimental design from Norse-Storm Battlemechs. A Lyran designed light 'Mech with a superior FedCom-designed engine and a Draconis C3 slave unit, the Ranger is a unique design.
Produced in small numbers before the split of the original FedCom, the Ranger has incredible speed and excellent firepower for such a small 'Mech. It still must be wary despite having maximum armor, because of the inherent lightness of the 'Mech.
With two ER medium lasers and a medium pulse laser the Ranger has significant firepower versus other recon 'Mechs, but its best offense comes not from its speed or weapons but from the Kallon Sure-Shot C3 slave. With this system the Ranger can close with other machines confident that its targeting data will allow heavier lancemates to cover it with very accurate firepower.
The C3 system relies on the triangulation data sent from the slave units and compiled by the Master system to improve the accuracy of all the units weapons. With the covering fire from numerous friendly units the Ranger can close to effective range of its own weapons where it can inflict significant damage.
Few units possess the Ranger and fewer still in the Lyran Alliance contain the proper C3 networks. The Ranger is a somewhat less effective machine when not engaged with the C3 system. Despite this drawback the Ranger is an excellent strike machine capable of operating from behind enemy lines without resupply, and an excellent scout for flushing out enemy units.
On propsed field modification calls for the removal of a Medium Laser and the Medium Pulse Laser in favor of a Beagle Active Probe and Gaurdian ECM suite. While increasing the detection ability of the Ranger it severly limits its fighting ability.
The Ranger has been spotted in rebuilding Lyran Guard units. The searing experience of the Civil War had confirmed in the minds of the Lyran commanders the importance of fast and capable mechs in highly mobile situations, and all of them were eager to get their hands on the Ranger.
Even with the death of Griff Storm, Norse-Storm Battlemechs continues to pour out these mechs into the LCAF at a prodigous rate.
