Overview:
Clan Ice Hellion loved fast mechs, the faster the better. The retired Star Colonel in charge of the Hector mech production facilities, Laundo Cage, took this attitude to the extreme.
He would organize mech races using cobbled together designs from the factory, and then pit those designs against each other in a racing deathmatch on a plain racing track. The first one across the finish line wins, but only if it could get there in the first place, considering that other mechs with heavier weaponry could shoot at it.
It eventually developed into a clandestine spectator sport as solahma and freeborn warriors decided to take up the challange for one last fling with death and honor. Merchants from the clan subsidized the sport, supplying it to civilians from all the clans and earning a tidy profit. Warriors who did well did not receive a cent, and accepted whatever honor they could scrap up. For his part, Cage tried to arrange solid berthings for the victors of his 'games'.
In 3066, a technician just tested out of his Trial of Position was assigned to the factory. Bitter at his fate, he decided to put together a machine and participate in the contest to try to redeem his honor.
Capabilities:
Taking a flawed Hellion chassis, which was slated for disassembly due to its overlarge torso engine cavity, the tech plugged in a Starburst 300 XL engine from an old Mad Dog. Then he placed 4 tons of armor over the mech, and retained the omnipod connections.
The resulting mech could exceed more than 150 kph, and he entered his makeshift mech, named the Comet, into the Deathtrack contest for the second half of 3066.
The Comet blew away the competition in its very first match, easily outpacing the other mechs. The Comet proved incredibly successful, and its omnitechnology enabled the tech to kep his opponents guessing about the loadout. The tech steadfastly refused to give away the secrets to his mech.
However, just after the tech won the championship against a Hellion, Laundo Cage managed to convince the tech to reveal the secrets of the Comet's construction, in exchange for a Trial of Position.
In late 3067, the Comet omnimech was put into production. The tech managed to become a warrior, and his initial mech posting was the first production Comet.
The Comet's various loadouts were geared towards causing as much destruction as fast as possible. Heavy lasers, ATMs, and pulse lasers were favored loadouts.
Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:
Star Commander Eldard
The designer of the Comet, his combat experience in the Deathtrack competition served him well as he managed to score two kills in the Trial of Position arranged for him by Laundo Cage.
Now a Star Commander in Alpha Galaxy, Eldard is an oddity among the other Ice Hellions as he treats his technical staff well, which is due to his prior existence as one of them.

Comets have been assigned to all frontline Ice Hellion galaxies. No other clan currently fields the Comet.
