The Goliath Scorpions, flush from their recent territorial gains in clan space, decided they needed a new mech design to help them boost their garrison defenses.
Khan Ariel Surarov asked for a mech that was cheap, used energy weaponry only, and was fast and maneuverable.
The scientist caste came up with the Blade, a hard hitting light mech that had extended battlefield endurance. It is also often derided as the poor man's Solitaire.

The Blade is lightly armored, having only 2.5 tons of ferro-fibrous armor layered around it. This meant that pilots of the mech would have to watch their movements very carefully, since any hit could be ruinous.
Thankfully, the Blade is very maneuverable, capable of jumping 210 meters with its Leaper jump jets.
The Blade packs incredible firepower for a mech of its size. 3 heavy medium lasers can destroy most light mechs in a single blast, and severely damage many others. By jumping into the rear of heavier machines, the Blade can threaten even assault mechs.

Star Commander Ricinia
A petite clan warrior, Ricinia is nevertheless as lethal as the namesake of her clan. She has taken down more than a star of mechs already in her Blade, and her deadly, almost unerring aim is earning her a reputation as a excellent shot.
Rumors abound of her gaining the ability through ingesting necrosia when she was still a cadet. While there have been anecdotal evidence of warriors shooting better after a dose of necrosia, Ricinia is the only one who has had a permanent effect from ingesting the drug. In fact, she has sworn off necrosia after her one ingestion, but that has not affected her aim any.

Blades are found in all the garrison clusters of the Goliath Scorpions, and are gaining widespread popularity with Seekers. In fact, the clan council has proposed that unproven Seekers be granted only the use of Blades for their quests, in an attempt to assign the more expensive mechs of the clan for other uses.
