Overview:

A command mech for Federated Suns officers, the Redcoat was manufactured by Archenar Battlemechs after they realised they had an unprecedented opportunity after the losses of the Civil War.
The Redcoat was meant to capitalise on the need for more capable command mechs in the AFFS. Although criticisms have been mounted about the Redcoat's lack of speed and firepower, the low price tag of the Redcoat still makes it perfect for the deficit weary AFFS budget.

Capabilities:

The Redcoat is relatively slow for a modern 60 ton heavy, but it does have 4 Chevron jump jets to navigate rough terrain effectively.
Armored to the maximum with Starguard armor, the Redcoat can take a pounding and still keep going. The use of a standard engine adds to its attractiveness as a durable command vehicle.
Its weapons are substantial, considering the tonnage lost to the C3 master computer. A NAIS rotary autocannon provides just enough firepower to make it a credible threat, while an extended range large laser takes advantage of the C3 system to really reach out and touch its enemies. A small laser provides close in defense, while the torso ammo is protected by CASE.

Deployment

Redcoats are appearing in standard regular formations in the AFFS, and slowly becoming the favored mechs of company and lance commanders. While they do not pack much firepower, their C3 capability has been shown to be a decisive factor in tactical to strategic engagements.
