Overview:

The final design produced by the pirates of the Star Haven cluster, the Highwayman is an interesting mix of speed and firepower. Fast for its tonnage, it does not employ an XL engine, using rocket launchers to compensate for its lack of decisive firepower.
More important is its role as a close assault vehicle and heavy scout, much like the oft maligned CGR-1A1 Charger.

Capabilities:

The Highwayman possesses a potent first strike capability that can cripple many medium to heavy mechs. However, after the rocket launchers are fired, the Highwayman only has an extended range large laser to dole out long range damage, with some medium lasers as backup.
Employing a massive Magna engine that takes up more than half of the mech's mass, the Highwayman is best suited for ambushing enemy units, especially with the Guardian ECM system engaged. Then it gets in close and uses physical attacks to pummel its opponents.

Battle History:

Much unlike the Charger, the Highwayman has lived up to its promise, being a deadly ambush mech that could deliver a devastating first strike and then follow up with a laser barrage and punch attacks.
In 3069, a pirate lance with two Highwaymen waylaid a heavy fire lance from the Taurian Concordat. The Archers and Marauders were beaten into scrap by the brutal tactics of the Highwaymen. The pirates did not suffer a single loss.

Variants:

One variant that has appaeared replaces the rocket launchers for a LRM rack, which offers less punch for a first strike, but offers more prolonged and consistent firepower.

Deployment

Highwaymen are found in all pirate bands in the anti-coreward Periphery regions.
