- Communications System: Sipher CommSys 7
- Targeting & Tracking System: Eagle Eye SY2000 w. Integrated Tracking
- Overview:
Comstar, with the development of the improved Narc system, found themselves lacking enough mech chassis to take advantage of the new system.
Most of the mechs they had already retrofitted with the iNarc were often fragile XL engined designs, highly vulnerable to enemy fire. These mechs could not stand up to deadly clan firepower, and often fell before they could use their Narc pods to designate targets.
In order to rectify this problem, Comstar contracted Odin Manfaturing to produce a cheap specialized mech that could carry out the role of a missile spotter, and also as a C3i spotter unit.
Odin replied quickly with the Gargouille, a modified version of the Grand Dragon.
- Capabilities:
The Gargouille bears a striking resemblance to the Grand Dragon, due to the shared chassis of the two mechs. What the Gargouille differs from the contemporary version is the lack of an XL engine.
Keeping a standard engine allowed Odin to keep costs down, which was of paramount importance to Comstar, which was suffering from severe fund shortage following the loss of revenue from the Free Worlds League and the Capellan Confederation.
The Gargouille mounts two main weapons systems, a Blankenburg ER PPC and a Siren Caller iNarc launcher. The ER PPC provides excellent hitting power while the iNarc fulfills the Gargouille's primary purpose of spotting for its missile-laden comrades.
A few lasers are present as backup, but pilots of the Gargouille are advised to pull back once they have podded their targets with Narc beacons and employ their PPCs.
- Deployment
Gargouilles have been deployed among all Com Guard units along the clan border, and also those stationed around the Chaos March.
Gargouilles saw action during the short lived Word of Blake jihad, where the appearance of the heavily armored iNarc unit stunned the Word of Blake forces.
The Gargouille looks set to be a staple design of Comstar and the SLDF in the future. The SLDF has already placed orders for fifty of these mechs.
