Overview:

Following the Draconis March's incursion into the Combine, several factories were seized and raided. MRM and Streak technology made their way to Robinson, where the Sandovals got their best engineers and technicians to copying the technology.
It was not long before MRMs and advanced Streak missile packs started appearing on retrofitted AFFS mechs, taking part in the ongoing conflict.
Wanting a new heavy mech that was relatively cheap but packed a real punch, Duke James Sandoval commisioned the Charon, which would incorporate Streak technology taken from House Kurita.

Capabilities:

Easily one of the most deadly mechs in existence, the Charon has fast acquired a reputation for firepower, endurance and durability.
Armed with the newest pride of the AFFS, the rotary autocannon, which comprises the bulk of its firepower, the Charon can quickly eliminate enemies by sheer weight of its shells. Two tons of ammunition is barely sufficient for continuous firing, though, and pilots are frequently advised to rely just as much on its other main weapon, the ER PPC.
The Lord's Light 2 ER PPC was stolen from the Draconis Combine, and renowned for its reliability and ease of use on a mech. It provides a long range punch that the Charon needs for longer engagements.
For short range work, the Charon has three medium pulse lasers and a six-pack streak rack that promises great pain for anyone foolish enough to close in. An almost superfluous ER small laser rounds out the design, the production rights having been acquired from the Free Worlds League.
Covered in 12.5 tons of ferro-fibrous armor, layered around an endo steel chassis, the Charon saves up enough weight not to rely on the dangerous XL engine. This has the unfortunate effect of lowering the speed of the mech to an average 60 kph. The designers have deemed this loss acceptable.

Battle History:

Several Charons were involved in the Battle Of New Avalon, where they repeatedly faced off against Falconers, Rakshasas, and other fast heavy mechs. In almost every instance, they defeated the fast heavies, proving their superiority and design worth.

Variants:

A version that sacrifices the ferro-fibrous armor, the streak missile pack, and the ER small laser for a deadly targeting computer is rumored to be in the works. If it is true, then the Charon's RAC/5 would become even more dangerous.

Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:

Captain Robbie Savage
'Savage by name, savage by nature' is the oft heard refrain wherever Robbie Savage goes. Having taken his name to heart, he fights from his Charon 'Breaker' with a relentless ferocity that crushes his opponents' spirit as effectively as his mech crushes their machines.
Stationed with the reforming 1st Robinson Rangers, Savage is still itching for a fight with the Draconis Combine.

Deployment

The Charon has so far appeared only in the Draconis March, in the forces professing loyalty to both James and Tancred Sandoval. None have turned up in forces loyal to Katrina. A few have since fallen into the DCMS hands, who were reportedly very impressed with the design.
