Overview:

The assault mech of choice for the Republic of Minnesota Armed Forces, the Vigilance is the symbol of the Republic's commitment to the ideals of free thought and speech, as well as the egalitarian society far different from the castes and feudal structure of other human nations.
A fearsome design at any configuration and any situation, the Vigilance has been known to send Sewshan troops running at the mere sight of it.

Capabilities:

At a hundred tons, the Vigilance packs near the maximum armor for its weight. Even then, it also has more than enough pod space to mount some of the most devastating weapons known to mankind.
The primary configuration is a copy of the dreaded Devastator mech. Using twin gauss rifles and ER large lasers, the Vigilance can visit vast destruction upon its foes.
The alpha variant is a fire support mech. 3 LRM 20 launchers with a large pulse laser for some short range punch. An anti-missile sysem defends the mech from counter missile fire.
The beta variant is an infighter, with jump jets and a ultra heavy autocannon. An array of lasers provide ranged and close up firepower.
The gamma configuration carries two massive Arrow IV launchers, and serves as ROMAF's mobile artillery unit.

Battle History:

The Vigilance has an honorable history of service, but the most notable occured in 2972 when a lance of Vigilances were trapped by more than a battalion of Sewshan armor.
The Vigilances simply blasted their way through with SRMs and pulse lasers. By the time the reinforcing ROMAF forces arrived, the Vigilances had already won the battle.

Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:

Khan Tia McEvedy
The leader of ROMAF's elite fighting force, Clan Wolverine, McEvedy holds a great deal of sway even among the democratic peoples of the Republic of Minnesota.
Known to be a highly caring yet brilliant commander, McEvedy is currently a neutral in the great debate of whether to reveal the Republic to the rest of humanity. She understands that any decision is likely to have massive ramifications on the Republic, and does not want the innocents to suffer should the clans decide to go after Clan Wolverine, which is 4 Galaxies in strength.
Her mech, the Bloodclaw, is painted totally red, and stands out in any battle, so as to attract enemy attention. then, as she maneuvers to avoid enemy attacks, the rest of her troops can pick off enemy units at their leisure.

Deployment

Vigilances account for 90% of ROMAF's assault mech complement. They have virtually replaced all other assault mechs in the front line regiments, and only a few XL engined designs remain.
